This sculpture intriguingly depicts Lord Khatu Shyam without a body, only his head adorned in ornate regalia, resting atop a shapeless robe. This unique portrayal may be linked to a poignant story from the Mahabharata, where Lord Krishna asks Barbarika to sacrifice his head to avoid his participation in the war, fearing that his unmatched warrior skills would decisively sway the battle’s outcome. Complying with Lord Krishna's request, Barbarika sacrifices his head but not before expressing his desire to witness the great war, which Krishna grants by placing his head atop a hill, giving him a view of the battlefield.

Lord Khatu Shyam is highly venerated, particularly in Rajasthan, India, where his principal temple is located in the village of Khatoo. Built in 1027 AD, the temple stands as a significant pilgrimage site, drawing devotees to honor his memory and celebrate his divine watchfulness during the epic Mahabharata war.
