The sculpture of Lord Shiva depicts him in a serene and powerful posture. He is shown with four hands, each symbolizing different aspects of his divine nature. The two front hands are resting gently on his lap in the Dhyana mudra, indicating deep meditation and inner tranquility. In his upper right hand, Lord Shiva holds a trident, known as the Trishul, which represents the three fundamental aspects of creation, preservation, and destruction. This trident is a potent weapon and a symbol of his supreme power. In his upper left hand, he holds a damaru, a small hourglass-shaped drum. The damaru is associated with the rhythm of the universe and the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, known as the Tandava. Lord Shiva is seated on a tiger skin, symbolizing his mastery over the instinctual and wild aspects of existence. The tiger skin also represents his role as the Lord of the animal kingdom, emphasizing his harmonious connection with nature. The sculpture is gracefully framed by a beautiful keerthimukam, also known as a Kirtimukha or "Face of Glory." This ornate and intricately designed element is commonly used in traditional Hindu art and architecture as a decorative motif. It resembles a fierce lion's face, displaying its teeth, and is believed to ward off evil and protect the sacred space.
