Musikvahana Ganesh - One who rides a Mouse
This striking sculpture portrays Lord Ganesha, the revered Hindu deity known for removing obstacles, seated astride his vahana (mount), a giant mouse. Ganesha, with his elephantine head and a pot-bellied human body, is a symbol of wisdom, understanding, and a benevolent protector of the arts and sciences. In his four hands, he gracefully holds a conch shell, symbolizing the eternal and divine sound; a lotus, representing spiritual enlightenment and purity; and an axe, which signifies the cutting away of all attachments.
The mouse as his mount represents the mind's ability to penetrate even the most secretive places, embodying sharpness and scrutiny, which complements Ganesha’s role in overcoming obstacles of all forms—physical, spiritual, or psychological. The juxtaposition of Ganesha's grand form riding the seemingly modest mouse highlights the deity’s humility and accessibility.
