Vishnu & Lakshmi on Seshnaag, the Divine Serpent
The Hindu God Vishnu is one of the principal Hindu deities, worshiped as the protector of the world and restorer of dharma (moral order). He has numerous iconic manifestations across texts. One of these forms show him sitting with his wife Lakshmi, on a throne under the protective hood of the primeval serpent Ananta or Sheshanaga in the oceanic waters. Both their heads are adorned with crowns which are radiant and majestic in appearance. Along with a Tulsi garland, they are embellished with armlets and other jewelry befitting their magnificent personalities. Four-armed, he holds a conch shell (shankha), wheel (chakra), a mace (gada) and a lotus (padma). Vishnu is a colossal lord of exquisite beauty-beaming like the glowing sun and his eyes are like a lotus in bloom. Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu is an image of eternal youth and peerless beauty. This Goddess of wealth and prosperity, holds the promise of material fulfillment and contentment.
